Putting Yourself Out There

Updated: Aug 1, 2021

When you put yourself out there you open up a world of possibilities both positive and negative. You hope that by putting your video online or applying to that job something good will happen that will move you toward your goals. Many times though you don't get what you're searching for. And sometimes you get the opposite of what you wanted. You become discouraged. You get anxiety about posting because you have whiplash from the last thing you did that was so heavily criticized. It's an endless cycle of trying things and facing the consequences.

I always get massive anxiety in classes or auditions because I just don't know what I'm signing up for. There's the thrill of the unknown but there's also the fear. For years I stopped myself from taking classes or applying to auditions and jobs because I was too afraid to be seen or get hurt. I can walk into an audition now and do what I came to do although l usually feel like I was thrown out of an airplane. It's mentally challenging to keep signing up for the workshops and applying to the jobs knowing that they mostly don't get me where I want to be.

But you have to do it if you want to change anything. There will be many failures, mistakes made, and upset stomachs on the journey. I found myself wanting to delete a video I posted that got a lot of negativity and I narrowly convinced myself not to because I don't want to live in the shadows. Sure a video on the internet is a drop in the bucket but even that hurt.

I watched something recently about manifestation. I know some of you will be rolling your eyes. In the video the man said manifesting what you want isn't just about envisioning your desires. It's also about showing up and becoming the person who claims them. It's not enough to think about it. You have to take the steps that the person who is getting results will take. It struck me because you have dreams and you discuss them and you can even study your heart out and run in their direction and not get anywhere. It may simply be because deep down you aren't really the person who achieves those things yet and it could be that you aren't really putting yourself into the arena in a way that involves some risk.

The person who gets results tries a million times despite the danger of discomfort or even embarrassment because they don't identify with the person who gives up. In their mind what they want is going to happen it's just a matter of when. So take a risk, put yourself out there every opportunity you get because the person who wins will do just that.
